Meanwhile year 8 are eating ice cream....

Whilst year 7 were clambering up the hills to see the famous 'four lakes' view year 8 were taking a leisurely stroll into Boppard with Mr Brewer and Mrs Clarke....

.......to the ice cream parlour 'Toscani'.

Travis tried the Spaghetti Eis....

Danny is modelling the banana boat...

As is Shannon!

Vincent preferred chocolate...

...and so did Zachary....

....and James...

..and Maddie ..

Joseph went for a healthy option...

....but not as healthy as Jenny's, there must be at least two of your five a day on that plate!

Danny did all of the ordering in perfect German.

...and he was rewarded for his efforts...

On the way home we enjoyed the Rhine views.

Year 8 were excellent company.

Year 7 are up there somewhere (spot the chairlift)!

Year 7's journey to the four lakes (there and back again)

After supper Frau Collins, Mrs Roberts and Mr Bown took year 7 for a lovely hike in the woods up to the top of the chair lift.

Here they are before they set off..

On the way they met numerous giant snails and slugs and this fellow.....

.....later identified as a European fire salamander by Mrs Roberts!

The view from the top was worth all the effort as from here you can see what seems to be four lakes but which in fact is the sweeping bends of the Rhine as it leaves Boppard.

And here they are at the top....

.....needless to say they slept well after their adventure!

At the Nurburgring

Today we drove to Nurburg for a backstage tour of the Nurburgring race track.

Our guide Max showed us the foundation stones for the track.

This is the old paddock.

There was a colourful museum with artefacts from byegone days.

We spent some time watching motorbikes zoom around the new track.

We tried out the winner's podium....

....maybe one day Jemima!

Vince said that Matthew would have loved to see the track - he always knows the answers to the formula one questions in the weekly quiz!

We tried out the seats in the media centre.

We left a rainy race track and headed over to Cochem where the weather was better.

Can you figure out what is going on here?

After Cochem we headed home and years 7 and 8 set off on different adventures but more of that later .......

Phantasialand

Today we set off bright and early for Bruhl, the home of Phantasialand.

The sun was shining....

....the food delicious...

......and the rides scary....

Everyone had a great time...

...even though some of us got Very Wet....

The trick is to cover up well..

Toby managed to keep fairly dry!

It was great fun.

And Mrs Willcox, here is our entry for the Geoflections competition. Can you spot four members of staff?

Tales from the Riverbank

The day began with a delicious breakfast at 7.30am ......

.......followed by a brisk walk down to the promenade to board the boat for our river cruise.

The weather was cloudy but warm as we cruised along spotting castles galore and steep vineyards.

We sat on the top deck.

Students have been given information folders with quizzes to complete...

.... And this occupied many of them as we sailed along.

Many photo opportunities presented themselves...

... Castles on most bends....

... And of course the inevitable selfies...

We disembarked at St Goarshausen and boarded our coach for the short drive to Rudesheim.

First stop was Siegried's Musikkabinett, a world famous collection of automated instruments.

Zachary loved it.

Alfie sat on a musical chair.....

....and Lewis became an organ grinder.

Purchases were made.

8C boys send greetings to their classmates!

Students explored the town and made various purchases.

....before boarding a cable car to take them up to the Denkmal.

The view was lovely.

After a leisurely walk across the top through the woods we boarded a chair lift to take us back down to our coach which was waiting in Assmannshausen.

Frau Collins went down first so that she could take photographs. Here are just a few.....

We headed back to the hotel for a delicious meal of soup, salad, frikadellen, rice and vegetables followed by chocolate dessert.

A stroll into town afterwards for our first and hopefully not last visit to the ice cream parlour.

Hugo spotted this on the way!

Amazing ice creams ahead....

The day ended with a friendly game of Uno on the balcony.

Phantasialand tomorrow!
